אני לחלוטין מאוהבת באלבום של האנטלרס, בעיקר בשיר קטרינג. זהו אלבום קונספט שיש איזשהו חוט עלילתי שמקשר בין השירים. השירים מאוד אקוסטיים מינוריים ואלגאיים. זה לא מפתיע בהתחשב ששם האלבום הוא הוספיס, ויש בו שיר למשל שנקרא "שבעה" והכוונה למנהג האבלות היהודי ולא למספר. האלבום מספר על בחור שמאוהב בבחורה החולה במחלה סופנית
.ועוסק בקשת של רגשות כמו רגשות אשם,ייאוש וחוסר אונים

הלהקה היא בעיקר פיטר סילברמן הסולן והגטריסט ומי שחיבר את רוב השירים בביתו. כמו האלבום של בון איבר, האלבום נכתב אחר תקופה של הסתגרות והתבודדות. השמועה אומרת שהאלבום נכתב בעקבות פרדה מחברת ילדות שאותה ליווה לאורך תקופה מאוד קשה שבה היא היתה גם מאושפזת בבתי חולים, ושבסופו של דבר היא עזבה אותו לטובת בחור אחר.

קלאסיקה של מד"ב מסוג המסע בזמן עם קצת מתח וסיפור אהבה עדין ברקע. הספר יצא בשנות ה-70.על ידי המחבר של The Body Snatchers. והוא מקים לתחיה את ניו יורק של סוף המאה ה-19
הגיבור סי מורלי הוא אילוסטרטור מסחרי שמתוסכל בעבודתו. הוא מצטרף לניסוי צבאי סודי הקשור למסע בזמן וכך הוא נשלח לניו יורק של 1882. הוא מתאהב שם בביתה של בעלת הבית שלו ונקרע כתוצאה מכך בין המאות השונות. יש בספר המון טריוויה על ניו יורק, שיכולה גם לעייף את מי שלא מכיר את העיר. אבל מה שיפה בספר הוא שהוא לא מציג תמונה אידילית של המאה שעברה, גם שם יש לא מעט בעיות: שחיתות, דיכוי ומחלות.

זהו ספר הרפתקאות נפלא שבמרכזו מסע בזמן לאנגליה הויקטוריאנית. הגיבור, ברנדן דויל, חוקר את הביוגרפיה של משורר בשם ויליאם אשבלס ומצטרף לקבוצה החורת בזמן לראשית המאה ה-19 כדי להרצות על משורר אנגלי אחר, קולרדיג'. עיניינים מסתבכים והוא נתקע בלונדון מנסה הויקטוריאנית, כשאיזו כת מיסתורית שמייסמת כישוף מיצרי עתיק
מנסה להפיל את המלוכה הבריטית. גיברנו נתקל באנגליה אפלה מאוד, דיקנסאית, ומקאברית שקשה לשרוד בה.
הספר הזכיר לי מאוד את ניל גיימן, קוני ויליס, וPossession של A.S. Byatt. והוא מקום התחלה נפלא למי שרוצה להכיר את טים פאוארס. ובכלל לכל מי שאוהב ספרות אנגלית. ואין לו בעיה עם קצת אלמנטים של פנטזיה.

Sunshine by Robin McKinley

בין כל ספרות הערפדים העכשווית, מסתתרת פנינה קטנה של סופרת בשם רובין מקינלי. רובין מקינלי כתבה כמה מספרי הפנטזיה האהובים עלי ביותר בכל הזמנים: The Blue Sword,The Hero and the Crown, Beauty. היא מזכירה קצת את פטרישיה מקיליפ (עוד סופרת שהייתי שמחה לקחת לאי בודד) בכך שהיא מרבה להתכתב עם מיתוסים קלטים ואגדות יידועות.

סאנשיין, הוא ספר קצת חריג בין יתר הספרים שלה. הוא דומה יותר לבאפי ולסדרת True Blood. סאנשיין הוא כינויה של ריי, בחורה רגילה כביכול שעובדת בבית הקפה של הוריה כאופה. יש לה חבר קבוע ודירה שכורה ונדמה שהיא מרוצה מחייה כפי שהם ושהכל מתנהל על מי מנוחות. עד שסאנשיין נחטפת על ידי ערפדים.

בשבי היא פוגשת את קונסטנטין הערפד, כשלמעשה היא נחטפה כדי לשמש לו מזון. קונסטנטין מסרב לשתות את דמה על אף היותו מורעב וחלש מהחשיפה לאור יום ומהלחשים שכובלים אותו, הם מתחילים לדבר ולהכיר זה את זה. ומערכת היחסים ביניהם שמסתעפת עוד יותר כאשר סאנשיין מחלצת את שניהם מהשבי תוך שימוש בכוחות כישוף שהיו רדומים עד עתה.

זהו ספר עדין ויפהפה, שלטעמי עולה בהרבה על סדרת דמדומים. סאנשיין היא דמות יותר מורכבת, מעניינת ומשמשת מודל נשי הרבה יותר חיובי מבחינה פמיניסטית לעומת בלה מ"דמדומים". בניגוד לבלה היא לא נכנסת ביודעין למצבים מסוכנים כדי שאיזה ערפד חתיך יבוא להציל אותה.
